Beware using large (>4hp) engines on your Express. The tube in the transom isn't the strongest thing in the world and can be damaged from overweight or over powered engines. My transom tube has been repaired from previous owners using large outboards.

I find that 4hp is plenty of power for long distance motoring, light enough to lift in and out of the boat. In any kind of chop or sea-way, you will have little luck with any outboard, as the prop starts coming out of the water.

:: What is the biggest motor that has been used on the
:: aluminum insert style motor mount for the express 27? I
:: am curious about the weight factor.
