The base of the mast has an insert which is the plate that the mast
hinges on. I have a few questions about this plate:
1) How deep does the plate extend up into the mast. There are a
series of mangled holes right at the base of the mast (1/8" from the
bottom), and about four screws as well, though these screws are not
very large, nor well secured. Are these screws holding the plate in
place? About 2-3 inches above that there are 4 1/4" SS pop
rivets--I'd feel much better if these are what is holding the plate
in place...
It's also possible that my mast has been sleeved at the bottom, and
that's what the pop rivets are holding...
2) I need to increase the mast rake on my boat (2-3" more headstay
length). Do I need to do anything to the plate to ensure it sits
flat?
