Norcalsailing report featuring Summer Palace:
http://www.norcalsailing.com/entries/2012/06/05/ditchrun2.html#.T-iWoI2Mfqs Below quoted from Pressure Drop: Drew Scott was helming a F-28. "My crew is starting to swing around to pick me up when El Raton, in perfect control slides up beside me and asks if I would like to get picked up. They had already doused their chute and stopped beside me. I took their offer and got back into a boat (trying to stop a lightweight trimaran next to someone when it is blowing in the mid-20s is not easy so I figured I would not turn down El Raton. My crew ably finished the race on Papillon, only one boat behind El Raton! And I had many adventures with El Raton, but that is their story to tell. So, a great big thank you to the Ray Lotto and the crew of El Raton for pulling my soggy hide out of Suisun Bay!! Drew Scott Papillon (most of the time)" |

Author: Bill Sumerfield Subject: What's your PHRF number? Info: (8171 views) Posted: Wednesday 1-14-15 03:31:24 PM |
At home in Hood River we use SF rating of 129 and that works just fine. But it's windy here.
:: I am rated 138 in SW Florida. Most of the year we have
:: very light winds. I can't beat the S2's boat for boat
:: most of the time and give them 30 seconds. Competitive
:: with most any other boat.
:: Bill
:: ::
:: ::
:: :: :: The Express is a 132 (129 OD configuration with the
:: :: :: penalty pole) in San Francisco bay. Which I get in a
:: :: :: place that has an average of 15-25 knots. But I'm
:: :: :: finding the number is 144 throughout North America with
:: :: :: a few exceptions like Detroit(144 -6 for masthead kite
:: :: :: 138). My question is what does the Express 27 rate at
:: :: :: your club or fleet and what are your average wind and
:: :: :: sea conditions. Also does it sail to the number? Before
:: :: :: someone hits me with the good old screw handicap racing
:: :: :: sail one design I plan to in the bay but at my local
:: :: :: club I need a number. The average breeze is 8-12 flat
:: :: :: water.
:: ::
:: :: Northern California PHRF 129
::
:: :: So Cal (Long Beach) PHRF 132, that is used by my club
:: :: here on the South Shore Tahoe LTWYC
::
:: :: seems to work as well as could be expected. SDK
