Subject: Cabin top primary winches
Info: (19116 views) Posted: Tuesday 1-10-12 09:05:39 AM
I'm puttin a new deck on my boat (#111) and I'm considering making some deck layout changes. My crew has suggested removing the primary winches and using the cabin top winches instead(he has sailed an Olson 30 with this set up and like it). I see that several boats on the west coast are doing this. What are the pro's and con's?

As I see it: Pro = easy to x-sheet, keeps weight closer to centerline when not x-sheeting. Con = halyard slip, makes the cock pick a pretty busy place (as I now lauch the kite out of the companion way)

Anyone who's used this set up feel free to chime in!

Scott
