Normally it is a piece of square tubing that inserts into the square hole on the stern. It has a piece of plate welded to it and plywood bolted to the plate. I think it is made of aluminum so it does not rust.
Also, I have seen people put a sliding motor mount bolted to the stern but I am not familiar with it.
