PHRF NW base rating is 153, we (Moxie) rate 150 as sailed, I was told
because of the length of our spin pole which is sized at class
length. We do OK at that rating against similarly sized boats in
light air, but struggle a bit around the buoys in a fleet with larger
boats I think mostly due to problems finding a lane.
At home in Hood River we use SF rating of 129 and that works just
fine. But it's windy here.
:: I am rated 138 in SW Florida. Most of the year we have
:: very light winds. I can't beat the S2's boat for boat
:: most of the time and give them 30 seconds. Competitive
:: with most any other boat.

:: :: :: The Express is a 132 (129 OD configuration with the
:: :: :: penalty pole) in San Francisco bay. Which I get in a
:: :: :: place that has an average of 15-25 knots. But I'm
:: :: :: finding the number is 144 throughout North America with
:: :: :: a few exceptions like Detroit(144 -6 for masthead kite
:: :: :: 138). My question is what does the Express 27 rate at
:: :: :: your club or fleet and what are your average wind and
:: :: :: sea conditions. Also does it sail to the number? Before
:: :: :: someone hits me with the good old screw handicap racing
:: :: :: sail one design I plan to in the bay but at my local
:: :: :: club I need a number. The average breeze is 8-12 flat
:: :: :: water.

:: :: So Cal (Long Beach) PHRF 132, that is used by my club

::
:: :: seems to work as well as could be expected. SDK
