I would call Buz Ballanger at Ballanger Spars in Watsonville, 831-763-1196. He replaced my lifelines last year. The size was increased to the meet the off shore rule. I don't believe the rule allows material other than uncovered wire.

That said, I have never seen the rule enforced in any coastal race.
