A SC-27 in Santa Cruz has a great system that I'll copy when I get around to it.

They have two fairly long aluminum poles that are probably ancient masts for an old rather large dinghy. They hinge at the top with a block and tackle dangling down. They strap the bases of these to some of their typical sailing deck hardware so that when upright, the thing forms an up upside down V straddling the boat. The top is around half the mast height. and it is braced fore and aft with guy lines.

The tackle comes down to attach to a rope loop they place around the mast.

One guy can raise that SC-27 telephone pole they call a mast and hook it all up. Simple and impressive.

Banderas Bay... ooooo I'm drooling.

:: Hi Brendan, Banderas Bay is a fantastic place to sail,
:: plenty of wind, warm water, whales,...we had lots of fun
:: and good racing at the Banderas Bay Regatta this year.
:: Would be cool to have more Express 27's next year! It's
:: a long 3 day drive from the Bay Area. Cross the border
:: at Nogales (take the truck route!!!). Generally
:: excellent toll highway the entire way (take plenty of
:: pesos), but two challenging spots - a severely potholed
:: 5-10mph nightmare bypass around Navojoa (~45 mins to
:: traverse) and a winding, hilly road from Tepic to
:: Banderas Bay. Need to get import permits for your boat &
:: tow vehicle, very easy to do online at Banjercitos
:: website. Border crossing is easy both ways if you get
:: the permits in advance online and carry multiple
:: hardcopies of your permits, registration and insurance
:: documents. Marina La Cruz boatyard has a good hoist for
:: launching the boat & friendly staff. The trip has some
:: challenges but is worthwhile, I can email more
:: suggestions/details to anybody interested.
::
:: :: That is awesome that you are trailering to Banderas Bay.
:: :: Any comments on how that trip is? Any problems in
:: :: transit either direction? Sounds super fun!
:: ::
:: :: :: Just completed our 2nd annual trailering trip to
:: :: :: Banderas Bay. This year I made a Gin Pole to raise &
:: :: :: lower the mast. Worked great! Pretty easy for 2 people,
:: :: :: might even be possible for 1 person with more careful
:: :: :: rigging of the stabilizing lines. I posted a couple of
:: :: :: photos in the Deck & Rigging gallery.
