Subject: Recommendations for a knotmeter?
Info: (25789 views) Posted: Monday 2-12-07 01:41:07 PM
I'm going to replace Wildthing's meter soon (hopefully) and I'm going to look into one of the transducers that does not need a hole at all and can figure the speed through fiberglass. I'm going to try and pair that with a Tacktick receiver... should be interesting- and solve the problem of the paddle coming out of the water while surfing past 17kts.

Just an idea

:: I've used Tacktick yachtmaster system for about 5 years-
:: the knotmeter paddle is extrememly prone to jamming
:: after it rains if lots of small sticks are around, and
:: if you aren't careful the through- hull can be damaged
:: and leak. You do need to pull the pin and lube it
:: through the paddlewheel upon occasion too. The
:: transducers

:: and through- hulls are easy to get from Airmar- and they
:: are great!(the help)

:: :: Nat,

:: :: We have the TacTic wireless system on Moxie and have
:: :: been very happy with it. We did have a problem with the
:: :: "brain" portion and they immidiately replaced it, no
:: :: questions asked. It was also compatible with my old
:: :: transducers so I didn't have to change out anything. I
:: :: would recommend giving them a call to see if your
:: :: existing transducers are compatible with the new TacTic
:: :: system.
:: ::
:: :: Hope that helps.

:: :: :: Hi -
:: :: ::
:: :: :: I need to replace the knotmeter on Elise - do you have
:: :: :: any recommendation for a good instrument set. I don't
:: :: :: know if there is a standard throughhull diameter, but
:: :: :: would love not to have to drill holes into the hull...If
:: :: :: it could be just drop and replace, it would be fabulous.
:: :: ::
:: :: :: Any pointers appreciated!
:: :: ::
:: :: :: Thanks!
