Subject: Bilge pump

Glad to hear someone else got the benefit of my learning experience. The duck bill valves have been working for me for 4 years with no issues.

::
:: I upgraded to the duck bill valves (thanks Larry) and
:: the durable diaphram rubber. Went from base $98 to about
:: $125. With shipping from midwest to CA, it was $135
:: total.
::
:: If you are thinking about upgrading the actual pump to
:: 12 gal/min over the stock 10 gal/min., you will have to
:: do some mods and you might still be limited by small
:: diameter intake PVC pipe that is glassed into the hull.
::
:: 10 gal/min is not much, but it meets the minimum
:: requirements for the Northern Cal Min. Ocean
:: Requirements.

::
:: :: I had continuing problems with my stock bilge pump so I
:: :: called Guzzler and bought a better set of valves from
:: :: them called duck bill valves. I have not had an issue in
:: :: years and the pump primes itself every time.
:: ::
:: :: :: No bilge pump can beat a scared crewmember with a
:: :: :: bucket.
:: :: ::
:: :: :: :: After thinking about it some more, I realized we ended
:: :: :: :: up buying a new pump, because the old one was pretty
:: :: :: :: shot. We were very happy that we could find the same
:: :: :: :: make and model. The covering where the mechanism
:: :: :: :: daylights in the cockpit was slightly different, but it
:: :: :: :: worked out okay. We tested it by putting the hose in
:: :: :: :: bucket of water, but didn't have to prime it.
:: :: :: ::
:: :: :: :: :: Does it work pretty well. I rebuilt my bilge pump, but
:: :: :: :: :: to get it to work I nearly always have to pull the hose
:: :: :: :: :: out of the bilge and pour water into it to prime it to
:: :: :: :: :: get it started???
:: :: :: :: ::
:: :: :: :: :: :: We were able to get parts at Svendsen's in Alameda. Let
:: :: :: :: :: :: me know if you need more info.
