Roger,
On the question of the reaching chute, I would recommend not going
with one. Most AP kites work fine on a reach, when needed. And most
race committees rarely put you on a triangle course any more so there
isn't too often times when you REALLY need a reaching chute. We have
used a runner design the last couple of chutes and it even works well
enough on the times when we need it.
As for the mast head kite question, it really depends on your
conditions. In the SF bay I don't think it would be worth the
benefit. If I were sailing regularly in SoCal or Seattle then I might
think about it. I know the Detroit guys use them a lot so hopefully
one of them will chime in.
Hope that helps,
Jason
