Fun series round up.
The 2009 Fun Long Distance series is posted. As in any negotiation
there’s some give and take in the end. Ultimately polling respondents
broadened the spread of races in the Fun Long Distance series,
increased e27 visibility across races and yacht club events.
In the end I pressed for FLD double handed Light Ship, crewed Light
Ship and Farallones all in March because that was what people wanted.
The spread was split between those who wanted a shorter double handed
Light Ship and a harder core Farallones. If you can’t do it all,
scores can even out, between two races with 10 and 11 boats polled
respectively; or with a throw out across the month of March. Crewed
Light Ship shows favorite at 13 votes. I hear there’s an event at
StFYC afterwards.
Some buoy racers saw all three races with Spring Keel as too many. I
held that the Triathlon of wining double handed Light Ship, Crewed
Light Ship and double handed Farallones is the only three sets of
races in YRA schedule that gets the winner covered in Latitude 38.
Two e27’s skippers have achieved this coverage. Others certainly
could. If there is an iron man e27 trophy waiting in wings this it
is.
So for March 2009, that’s why it’s important for all 10 boats who
polled for double handed Light Ship to do the race. All 13 boats who
polled Crewed Light Ship and 11 boats that said double handed
Farallones to do these races. Between all of us, odds are, someone
could win all three ocean races.
I highly encourage the SF to SC ocean race as this is the Fun Long
Distance series. Midnight Moonlight as a diversified choice is back
on the schedule after a two year hiatus. Jazz Cup is on the schedule.
So now there are three in North Bay down wind rides; Valley, Jazz and
the beginning of Ditch Run up the river.
Respondents also voted a combined score SSS single/double handed
series into the Fun schedule. I think it’s a unique result, including
Vallejo 1-2. Fun respondents voted for a split SSS Richmond to South
Beach Saturday, Sarcoma Sunday. This result was lost in the
committee’s final decision. Lacking one SSS race in the Fun schedule
does not prevent SSS series racers from doing Richmond to South
Beach, and then doing Sarcoma Sunday only, with no Fun series scoring
penalty.
Similar to SSS, respondents included almost all of the YRA Party
Circuit as a subset of Fun series; Vallejo and 2nd Half Opener
Saturday only. Perhaps Closer next year if entries this year show YRA
party circuit also as a viable sub set of the Fun series.
Noteworthy, Sarcoma Sunday, 2ndHalf Opener Saturday and Great Pumpkin
Sunday all support the ease of administration one race day weekend
concept.
Almost every Fun Long Distance series event includes after race
festivities.
Thanks for making your choices count. See you on the race course.
