2008 LONG DISTANCE - FUN SERIES PROPOSAL FOR DISCUSSION & PLAN DEVELOPMENT

PLEASE ADVISE ON YOUR THOUGHTS

Goal:

Stable participation across season long series.

Diverse options relatively easy to administer.

No round the bouy city front or 5 race weekends.

Eliminating low priorities or leaving as throw ot maker up can mean no trailering.

Objective:

Minimum one race per month.

Method: 12 races minimum; rest as throw outs. Low point scoring system. No weight limit. No duplication w/class series. LD/Fun Series gets 1st pick of 1-off races w/party for class scheduling. Some real long distance races + party races, most w/social following. After race party is 'key' for regatta decision making criteria.

Note: There are three real long distance races; Monterey, Coastal and Windjammers. These races may not encourage participation. Could extend beyond the 12 race minimum as throw out make up. Or, include and score with incentive points, ie; counts as two races. Series Proposal; dates are proximate weekend.

January 26 Three Bridge Double-handed

February 16 Corinthian Midwinter Saturday Only; Dinner Dance Following Both days is okay by me. Saturday only is deisgned to get boat home easy.

March 22 Crewed Lightship; Introduction to Ocean April 5 Double Handed Farallones Not sure if this race encourages participation; but easy to administer. Attempts to keep series pace at one race/month. Possible drop as a series lower priority.

May 3-4 Vallejo; Saturday Party Which means this is a LD series scorer; not a class scorer. Counts as 2 races.

May 23 or likely the 30th Monterey Spin Run; Saturday Mixer. Not sure if this race encourages participation; relatively easy to administer. Possible drop as a series lower priority.

June 7 Ditch Run; Saturday Party

Or

June 14-15 Drakes Bay; Raft Up Party Counts as 2 races. This can be a great race if, for preparation, was separated from Ditch by more than 1 week. June 18 Coastal Cup; Mixer at Event Not sure if this race encourages participation; harder to administer. Possible drop as a series lower priority.

July 5 Midnight Moonlight Great Longer Distance Race Relatively easy to administer. No party afterwards but a very good race.

July 19-20 Plastic Classic; For the Fun of It; Saturday Barbeque Party Fest Counts as 2 races.

Or

July 19 Half Moon Bay; Saturday Barbeque Party @ HMBYC Race one-way only; cruise back. If a priority drop go doublehanded HMB in August.

July 26 Second Half Opener; Saturday Party Bonita Race Only

August 16 Half Moon Bay; Double handed; Saturday Barbeque @ HMBYC' If we nix OYRA Half Moon Bay in July; make up HMB in August.

September 6 (Could be August 30) Windjammers; Saturday Party.
