I just had to do it. Its not about the length of the spinnaker pole . . . its about the max girth of the spinnaker. Have a great regatta.

:: Anyone else thought any more about taking their boat up
:: to Huntington Lake? If we can not get enough to have our
:: own class I will likely take the Santana 20 instead.
:: So......time to step up if you are thinking about doing
:: this fun regatta.
::
:: Cheers,

:: Jason
:: :: :: Epress 27 Fleet,
:: ::
:: :: If you where not already aware, you always have an open
:: :: invitation at the High Sierra Regatta in the PHRF Fleet.
:: ::
:: :: As for a One-Design Start:
::
:: :: Many of you I am sure know of the hurdles that we must
:: :: overcome just to hold this our 55th annual regatta. We
:: :: have many limitations placed upon us by the Forest
:: :: Service not only on the number of boats but specifics
:: :: such as where each mark is placed, how the
:: :: starting/finsh line is layed out, where we park, stand,
:: :: etc. In other words our hands are pretty much tied. We
:: :: are always walking on eggshells, just hopping the day
:: :: never comes when we must scale back or . . . this
:: :: wonderful event at this fantastic venue. Heck, we even
:: :: had a recomendation from the authorities that we only
:: :: sail around the lake clockwise to eliminate congestion!
:: ::
:: :: As much as we would like to extend to you your own
:: :: exclusive start it will probably take 10+ boats. We have
:: :: so many classes and so little time to get them all off
:: :: the line before we have some of the hotter sport boats
:: :: back for a finish. Annually we are turning classes of
:: :: boats away. Just not enough room. Exceptions are given
:: :: to fleets that are hold a championship regatta in
:: :: conjunction with the High Sierra.
:: ::
:: :: The idea Gary mentioned about having fleet trophies
:: :: within PHRF. We will provide (pay for) these. I belive
:: :: it is usually 5 boats =1 trophy, 7 boats = 2 or somthing
:: :: like that. You will be scored in both PHRF and Express
:: :: 27 with 5+.
:: ::
:: :: More information on the High Sierra Regatta including
:: :: the Notice of Race can be found at
:: :: http://www.fresnoyachtclub.org/hsrdetails.htm
::
:: :: Entry form should be available latter in March.
:: ::
:: :: Any questions, please do not hesitate to ask! Gary and
:: :: Bill have been comming up for years and can probably
:: :: answer most as well as I can.
:: ::
:: :: Hope to see you at Huntington!

:: ::
:: :: :: Second try. I'll figure out this new system yet.
:: :: ::
:: :: :: I have spoken with a representative for the Fresno Yacht
:: :: :: Club and they are limited on the number of starts and
:: :: :: can't add any more. The age old issue when using the
:: :: :: same line to start and finish. If too many starts and
:: :: :: there is any sort of delay (i.e. general recall) they
:: :: :: could have boats finishing in the middle of boats that
:: :: :: are starting.
:: :: ::
:: :: :: If we get five e27's they will however give us our own
:: :: :: fleet and the start line is pretty long so not a real
:: :: :: issue if we start with another fleet. We can also
:: :: :: sponsor our own trophy if we only have 4 boats so we
:: :: :: could race PHRF and still have a trophy for our own
:: :: :: first place boat also. Yacht Club will go along with
:: :: :: that and I will personally pay for the trophy if
:: :: :: necessary.
:: :: ::
:: :: :: Billy, I am with Tom on the idea that we all use the
:: :: :: class spinnaker pole. That eliminates any problem for
:: :: :: the visiting boats that don't have a shorter pole or
:: :: :: don't know about the issue.
:: :: ::
:: :: :: I reran the numbers from last years races with the
:: :: :: ratings for Billy and myself as if we had used the
:: :: :: longer pole and taken the lower rating and it didn't
:: :: :: amke any difference in our inal out comes in any of the
:: :: :: PHRF races.
:: :: ::
:: :: :: Garry Owens
:: :: ::
:: :: :: ::
:: :: :: ::
:: :: :: :: :: Tom I say lets wait and see how many we get in our class
:: :: :: :: :: for what length pole we use If we are not racing class
:: :: :: :: :: and we are thrown in with PHRF I really dont see the
:: :: :: :: :: advantage;
:: :: :: :: ::
:: :: :: :: :: :: As this is a Class High Point event I can assume those
:: :: :: :: :: :: of us going are going to sail in One Design mode? IE: no
:: :: :: :: :: :: short spinnaker poles for the PHRF ratings? I know that
:: :: :: :: :: :: we would like to get our own start. But I can almost
:: :: :: :: :: :: bet, (having delt with Fresno Yacht Club running other
:: :: :: :: :: :: major sailing events with them) that we will be tossed
:: :: :: :: :: :: in with the regaular PHRF fleet, unless we somehow come
:: :: :: :: :: :: with 10 + boats.

:: :: :: :: :: :: -Tom
:: :: :: :: :: ::
:: :: :: :: :: ::
:: :: :: :: :: :: :: So this means you are goingto take Magic Bus up there,
:: :: :: :: :: :: :: right?
:: :: :: :: :: :: ::
:: :: :: :: :: :: :: -Jason
:: :: :: :: :: :: ::
:: :: :: :: :: :: :: :: huntington lake is beautiful
:: :: :: :: :: :: :: ::
:: :: :: :: :: :: :: :: windy in the afternoon, shifty lake sailing.
:: :: :: :: :: :: :: ::
:: :: :: :: :: :: :: :: lots o fun.
