I have replaced several stanchions over the years and have a set for offshore work that is taller than the class rules require as well as a minimum height set for crewed racing in the bay. The cheapest way I have found to get stanchions was to order 24" stanchions and cut off a segment from the bottom so the height from the deck is the correct measurement. Most stanchions come with an inner sleeve to strengthen the stanchion and when cut, this has to be epoxied back to the outer portion of the stanchion. The cut end has to be filed and polished to avoid damaging the end of the receiving tube in the deck. These are not very expensive and my guess is that you could buy several stanchions before costing as much as a custom setup.

:: Check the guage of the stanchions. I bought new tapered
:: stanchions from Garhauer for about $18 each. They bent
:: immediatly with the first full crew hike. I replaced
:: them with a set (not tapered) from Svendsens, about $50
:: each, the steel was twice as thick. Hope they hold up.
::
:: :: You might try Garhauer Marine. They have stantions in
:: :: there catalog that look close.

:: :: :: The stanchions on my boat are in need of replacement -
:: :: :: two of them were bent, and none of the four really
:: :: :: matched each other anyway. Is the original stanchion
:: :: :: just a straight tube with some type of ring at the top
:: :: :: that just goes directly into the (interior) glassed-in
:: :: :: receptacle at the deck level? A couple of the stanchions
:: :: :: on my boat had a diagonal strut that went from the deck
:: :: :: to part way up the main piece. The diagonal strut didn't
:: :: :: seem to provide improved strength, as one tube was bent
:: :: :: at the upper attachment point for the strut.
:: :: ::
:: :: :: If there is someone who wouldn't mind my looking at
:: :: :: their boat so that I could take some photos, I'd greatly
:: :: :: appreciate it. This coming weekend isn't good for me,
:: :: :: but perhaps next?
:: :: ::
:: :: :: Thanks,
:: ::
