Take two races ... there's two boats entered in one and ten in the
other. Does it feel fair to you that second place in those two races
should count the same?
Low point works well in a regatta where there's the same number of
boats in all the races. When you're talking about a series made up of
different events, it's unlikely you'll get equal numbers. The boat
that takes second out of ten boats won't enjoy getting equal series
credit with the boat who took second out of two.
I know that's an extreme example, but it effectively shows the
'silliness' (I hope).
