I have a Honda 2HP, and in reverse, I've had the mount pull out far enough that I thought I was going to lose the motor. And without the outboard strut to stand on, it would be a real bear to try to try to pull it all up out of the water by just the outboard lanyard.

:: I've been in all kinds of conditions, like 10 foot seas,
:: and never even thought about the mount pulling out. Its
:: never budged in reverse, maybe its the tape. I wrap mine
:: with electricians tape mainly to help reduce the
:: vibration, so its a little tight. Has any one else ever
:: experienced any problem?
::
:: :: Thanks Roger , I had some anxiety as I'm awaiting on
::
:: :: a 4 hp nissan. Sadly the weight doubles as all 4,5 ,6
::
:: :: hp Tohatsu Mercury and nissans have the same weight.
::
:: :: Do you have a retaining pin to hold a motor mount in
:: :: place?
::
:: :: I think there is a risk of a motor mount to
::
:: :: slip out in reverse.
:: ::
:: ::
:: ::
:: ::
:: :: :: Just another view- I do significant long distance
:: :: :: cruising often motoring for 8 hours. I use a mercury 5
:: :: :: horse long shaft (with an alternator to charge the
:: :: :: batteries). It is heavy to move on and off, but I see no
:: :: :: issues with the mount, other than the obnoxious
:: :: :: vibration inherent in the mount design. For serious
:: :: :: transport I think you need 5 horse, for occasional use 4
:: :: :: would be better. Long shaft is a must for any serious
:: :: :: use
