Subject: Fun Update & 2010 Schedule

Hi Everyone:

The good news is e27 series schedule process is pretty democratic. And board room competition as good as any two in-house design teams.

The bad news is scheduling final decision did not include SSS dbh'd Round the Bay on Resin conflict weekend; following Fun dbh'd Farralons by one week.

My position was hard cores would do Farralons leaving anyone else to do SSS Round the Bay, resulting in a leveling of scores in Fun series early into the season supporting broader fleet participation in this near term. That did not sell in the end, over neat and clean looking schedule, with no conflict weekends.

Also Vallejo 1-2 was dropped due to Simpson conflict. My take is late in the season Simpson and V 1-2 are left to their contenders . . . no matter. Many FUN regulars will race SSS regardless; see ya on the dbh'd race course.

Interesting; across anyone buoy & Fun conflict weekend, total on the bay e27 races actually go up by the Stats when owners are left to their prefernces. Fiedling more boats at more YC events for greater overall fleet visibility. Also leverage, YRA was willing to give us the $55 race price on 3, but not 2 YRA races.

Interesting; race stats suggest Fun participation builds toward end of year.

Interesting; the percentage of Fun vs Buoy responders back to the V1-2 question indicated nearly all SSS FUN racers and a minorioty of Buoy overall.

Interesting these responses were pretty well splity along constituent lines.

Interesting; as a percentage of total responses, Fun secured a highler level of affirmative indicators verse buoy responses in relation to Buoy total fleet.

So we have a coalition in the board room.

Some buoy boats stretched across series said they could not quallify for Fun on throw outs given maximum number of races in Fun and across both series. I suggested dbh's Round the Bay and V1-2 be given as a freebie throw out to any buoy boat that did the buoy event instead of the Fun event that weekend; which would have been two weekends in twelve; instead we're at 10 weekends w/YRA Vallejo the only Fun 2 race weekend.

I thought this throw out freebie method be adopted as a 'no brainer' buoy concession in all conflict weekends arising in future years overall series scheduling. That was not adopted this year.

This freebie throw out for buoy only, I thought, would address some who suggested that number of throw outs be increased to more then 50% for those with time unknowns; and as everyone knows I think fun should experiment for more Fun.

In 2010 Fun shared set with buoy and the extended FUN set continues to ride SSS as a mass regulator offering greater mass for e27 to compliment & vice versa. Attracting current e27s and prospects into e27 fleet through this easy to administer SSS event bridge. With objective of pulling in from the side lines, and the every once in a whiles, for an easy to administer bay race, not necessarily designed to interest the usuals . . . but pull into the fleet from the sides and up the ladder.

Interesting; agreement was made that Fun was the easier entry path into fleet entry vs. buoy for growing participation. However, there seem to be rumors of some big boat gold platers tired of the big bucks on big boat buoy buying e27s for bouy.

In Summary:

SSS not on e27 Fun this year,SSS Half Moon Bay is tabled, Round the Bay & Vallejo 1 - 2 both made the 5+ fleet participant hurdle and with no conflicts in 2011 could be back on the Fun series schedule. Jazz is similar with NA's weekend conflict in 2010. Any and all of these events could find there way back onto FUN series schedule in 2011 sans conflict weekends.

With 11 races in Fun the fleet meets a historical average. Peggy and team have put together a world class schedule and we are all very happy with it,.
