Subject: Chainplate bolts

:: Just thought I would pass along that about two weeks ago
:: I replaced all of the chainplate bolts on Witchy Woman
:: #116. An easy job to complete, as I simply removed one
:: bolt at a time from each chainplate and inserted the new
:: bolt. Be WARNED, I think my chainplate bolts were
:: original and every single one of them (6 per side) were
:: bent, or severely corroded / rusted. Several of the nuts
:: broke apart and simply sheared the bolt off. This is an
:: easy repair / maintenance job with two people and I
:: would suggest that every owner at the very least
:: inspects a couple of the bolts on each side, cheap
:: insurance in comparison to a new rig….

Good advice. Chainplate leaks are hard to stop. They damage the bulkhead as well as the bolts.
