Here is what I did....pretty effective and very light. I removed all of the hardware from inside of the boom and replaced it with a single 3/16ths vectran line. The line is led to a small bullet block in the front of the boom that is then led to a dinghy vang type purchase that attaches to the base of the mast. VERY easy to control from the rail. So far so good...the breaking stregnth of the vectran is about 2000lbs so it should hold up.
