Subject: Mainsail Flattener/Top Batten/Window?
Info: (15442 views) Posted: Monday 7-5-10 10:01:02 AM
Santa Cruz Sails, Dave Hodges and company know the boat very well, provide an excellent product and great service. I find a flatening reef usefull. Allows the # 1 to be carriied to the very upper wind range and keeps the boat flatter when sailing light with a # 3. I dislike full battens, they are a pain to tack or jibe, and provide no benefit. I would like to have a spreader window in the main but Dave said he wouldn't know where to install it. All my mains have been with bolt rope foot, just what I'm used to, and dacron for shapeability and long life. SDK

:: Hi All-
::
:: We bought "Libra" (#113 - formerly "Sonita") late last
:: year, and are now looking to replace the 8+ year old
:: sails.
::
:: For the mainsail, we were wondering whether anyone found
:: a flattening reef useful ("flattener"), liked a full
:: batten for the top batten, liked a window in the
:: mainsail that would allow crew to see the jib distance
:: off the spreader?
::
:: Also, dacron vs. kevlar? Loose footed or connected foot?
:: (allows for spinnaker pole stowage)
::
:: And by what sailmaker?
::
:: We are appreciative of any and all input.
::
:: Thank you much.
::
:: Sincerely,
::
:: Marcia Schnapp

:: Sergey Lubarsky

:: Express 27 #113 - "Libra"
