Hi Bob: One question. Why in a low point system is scoring the second place
boat 2nd silly? Appears on the surfance to be level method across a
series. Where and how does this system fail to encourage series
participation? Thanks,
mb :: Hi Bob: :: :: Thanks for the inputs on scoring systems aimed at :: participation in mind. :: :: So for the current system, add more F/LD Series throw :: outs into the schedule to encourage more participants :: across the series. :: :: Want to say anything more on High Point? Seeems more :: complicated? :: :: mb :: :: :: No dog in this hunt, but....... :: :: :: :: Low Point scoring is inherently unfair in series made up :: :: of different events. Scoring the second place boat "2" :: :: whether there's two or ten boats is silly. :: :: :: :: I think your current system is a Cox-Sprauge derivative. :: :: It's very fair, and if you want to require more :: :: participation, just state a higher number of required :: :: races to count. :: :: :: :: Another scoring method which works is high point, with a :: :: set high point race value (say each race is worth 20 :: :: points). The winner is going to get twenty no matter how :: :: many boats are racing. A boats score is ((the number of :: :: boats beaten plus one) divided by (the number of boats :: :: racing)) times (the race value). :: :: :: :: Unless you're very certain that you'll get a consistent :: :: number of boats at each event in the series, low point :: :: will discourage participation. :: :: :: :: Bob :: :: :: :: :: 2) In response to your post on e27 scoring system vs. :: :: :: low point. Environmentally the current scoring method :: :: :: for the F/LD series, consistently demonstrates that a :: :: :: boat can win the series by sailing the minimum (four :: :: :: this year) most attended F/LD events. And this has been :: :: :: true since the F/LD seriies started. This is the :: :: :: annomalous worm hole I'd like to regulate against. So, :: :: :: I've proposed a low point scoring system for F/LD only :: :: :: as one strategy to close this jump gate.
