Subject: Weight Limit
Info: (28332 views) Posted: Wednesday 9-12-07 08:10:11 PM
I've stayed out of the weight limit argument up until now My vote is to leave things as they are. My wife often sails on the boat, as well as I am not more then 170lbs soaking wet, I certainly do not want to sail with more then 5, and I also do not want to have to find a bunch of 220+ sailors to join me on the boat. Keeping the weight limit down certainly helps the women into the class as possibly getting Jr.s on the boat. PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE A THING.

::
:: ::
:: :: For the Long Distance + Fun Series only, I've proposed
:: :: eliminating the weight limit. Please see LD series
:: :: proposals.

:: ::
:: :: :: LEAVE THE WEIGHT LIMIT ALONE>>>> PLEASE 880 lb IS
:: :: :: IDEAL!..
:: :: ::
::
:: The weight limit at 880 lbs is ideal. Lighter weight
:: equals lower loads on the boat. I've raced with 1,000+
:: on the boat (ocean, years ago). The boat isn't as fun.
:: Feels like a destroyer upwind, slower downwind. It's too
:: crowded and at least one crew is just a lump on the
:: rail. The only time the boat is measurably faster with
:: lots of weight is at the high end of the No. 1 and
:: that's when the loads on the boat and rig are really
:: high. You are wearing out your No. 1 really fast.
::
:: I'm one of the "bigger" drivers and I am at no
:: disadvantage against small skippers and "bigger" crews.
:: (If your crew is hiking significantly harder than the
:: driver it's probably because your lifelines are too
:: loose.)
