>>In the Express 27 website 'Photo Gallery', one of the last shots show a E-27, hull 49 with, what looks like an A chute mounted on a bowsprit, similar to a J-80. Was this a permanent mod or an experiment?

>>Bill, #49 was in Kansas when I bought it and it had a bow sprint mounted on the deck and did not affect the intergrity of the hull. I believe it was off a B29 or similar rig. It was set up on a track on the deck and could be extended by a set of lines and blocks when the asymetrical chute was hoisted.

I sail the boat out of Monterey and have removed the setup as it is not class legal. I still have all of the gear and asymetrical chute if you are interested.
