Gary,

This really depends on the cut of your main. For instance, a Quantum main needs more rake than a North or Santa Cruz main just because of how they are cut. The best thing to do is read through the North Tuning guide in the articles section of the website. Set your boat up and take the initial measurement. Then go out and sail the boat and see how your boat speed is and how well the boat points. There are a lot of other factors that can affect boat speed and point as well. If you are trimming your sails right but still can't point, then rake the mast back a little more. This will take some speed away but allow you to point better. If you start to get weather helm, then you have to much rake. So rake it back forward to correct that.

You really need to bring the boat up to SF bay and speed test with another boat to get it just right. So come on up and do some one design stuff!

Are you interested in going down to Long Beach on June 16 & 17? We need one more Express to get a one design start. Would love to see you out there.

Call me anytime with questions.

Jason
