Subject: Keel bolt removal/ replacement?
Info: (10302 views) Posted: Wednesday 3-9-16 10:27:58 AM
I have been reading about the various posts regarding keel bolt tightening and also the bolt failure that led to lots of problems (Witchy Woman). My E-27 is new to me and I plan to dry sail it and use what I believe to be the stock lifting SS band bridle that spans two keel bolts.

I am wondering if anyone has successfully removed one of these keel bolts and if it is even possible...I have seen lead keels that were cast with large U stainless steel pieces that incorporate two keel nuts. Clearly something like that can not be unscrewed.

Rather than drill new holes for extra bolts I'm thinking about unwinding the two bolts common to this lifting bridle and just replacing them. My next option would be to install eye nuts on some other keel bolts and doing some type of safety bridle. This has also been mentioned on this forum. If anyone has pictures of one of these I would like to see it.

Thanks!
