This is a great loss for the class and for the sailing community as a
whole. My only interactions with Carl were when I first purchased my
boat in 1998 and I called Carl on several occasions to ask him about
the boat and questions that I had in restoring it. Unlike other
designers that I have had the misfortune of working with, Carl was
kind, humble, forthcoming with advice and suggestions, told me to
call him with questions, and rebuffed my suggestion that I pay him
for his time. I have greatly admired his many designs over the years
