Subject: Oh,?, why is scoring 2nd silly?

Take two races ... there's two boats entered in one and ten in the other. Does it feel fair to you that second place in those two races should count the same?

Low point works well in a regatta where there's the same number of boats in all the races. When you're talking about a series made up of different events, it's unlikely you'll get equal numbers. The boat that takes second out of ten boats won't enjoy getting equal series credit with the boat who took second out of two.

I know that's an extreme example, but it effectively shows the 'silliness' (I hope).

:: Hi Bob:
::
:: One question. Why in a low point system is scoring the
:: second place boat 2nd silly? Appears on the surfance to
:: be level method across a series. Where and how does this
:: system fail to encourage series participation?

:: Thanks,
