Norcalsailing report featuring Summer Palace:

"My crew is starting to swing around to pick me up when El Raton, in perfect control slides up beside me and asks if I would like to get picked up. They had already doused their chute and stopped beside me. I took their offer and got back into a boat (trying to stop a lightweight trimaran next to someone when it is blowing in the mid-20s is not easy so I figured I would not turn down El Raton. My crew ably finished the race on Papillon, only one boat behind El Raton! And I had many adventures with El Raton, but that is their story to tell. So, a great big thank you to the Ray Lotto and the crew of El Raton for pulling my soggy hide out of Suisun Bay!! Drew Scott Papillon (most of the time)" |

Thanks much for your message. I checked out the nylon sling on grainger.com as you said. Unbelievable value! A couple of other questions for you: I bought my boat used and have never hauled it with a lift. The lifting cables that came with the boat are all rusted and unusable, but there are three of them -- one, I assume, goes through the port on top of the cabin and attaches to the lifting hook in the bilge. The other two, I assume, are led through the main hatch opening and attach under the cockpit. When you haul your boat with the Grainger strap, do you use that strap alone attached to the hook in the bilge? If so, is the boat very well balanced with a single strap attached, or do I need to do something to distribute the weight in the boat? Thanks again for your help.
