Norcalsailing report featuring Summer Palace:
http://www.norcalsailing.com/entries/2012/06/05/ditchrun2.html#.T-iWoI2Mfqs Below quoted from Pressure Drop: Drew Scott was helming a F-28. "My crew is starting to swing around to pick me up when El Raton, in perfect control slides up beside me and asks if I would like to get picked up. They had already doused their chute and stopped beside me. I took their offer and got back into a boat (trying to stop a lightweight trimaran next to someone when it is blowing in the mid-20s is not easy so I figured I would not turn down El Raton. My crew ably finished the race on Papillon, only one boat behind El Raton! And I had many adventures with El Raton, but that is their story to tell. So, a great big thank you to the Ray Lotto and the crew of El Raton for pulling my soggy hide out of Suisun Bay!! Drew Scott Papillon (most of the time)" |

Hi Steve:
I too thought about nixing crewed Light Ship due to YRA cost, 2 weeks seperation created between dbh'd LS and dbh'd Farallons. Those two reasons in my view are all good reasons to pull crewed Light Ship from the Fun series schedule.
But I'm going to chose to nix doubleghanded Farallons, because doublehanded LS followed by crewed LightShip one week can be an easier time (or fewer hours) on the course.
I also think crew Light Ship is a strategic race for the classes visibility. Especailly witht he StFYC gathering afterwards.
On the flip side that the combination of dbh'd LS, crew LS, might attract some on the fringes who want to ocean race but only do only once in a while. Or, just wabnt something simpler and more Fun then dbh'd Farallons.
I have no problem with dbh'd Farallons if others feel differently in choosing two out of three ocean races for Spring Season Start UP; but feel dbh'd LS followed by crew LightShip are just easier to do time wise.
So who out there in express land can chime on for a third, fourth and fifth input? Thanks, Mike
:: Thanks for the input Steve. Others please chime in.

:: ::
:: :: :: Hi Everyone:
:: :: ::
:: :: :: Scheduling committee is prepared to poll the fleet on
:: :: :: this one question.
:: :: ::
:: :: :: Q. Pick 2 of 3 events in March/April from Island YC
:: :: :: doublehanded LightShip, YRA Crewed LightShip, BAMA
:: :: :: doublehanded Farallons.
:: :: ::
:: :: :: We're asking acknowledging fleet members input that too
:: :: :: much racing occurred in too little time through this
:: :: :: season start up period last year.
:: :: ::
:: :: :: We chose to soft sound for direction figuring this
:: :: :: simply technique might answer the question sans polling.
:: :: :: Which event to drop?
:: :: ::
:: :: :: The committee is primarily interested in hearing back
:: :: :: from 2009 participants to the double handed Light Ship,
:: :: :: Crewed Light Ship, double handed Farallons. But all
:: :: :: inputs are useful from owners who would race 2 out of
:: :: :: three of these events in 2010.
:: :: ::
:: :: :: Post back to this message board which ONE of the THREE
:: :: :: races you'd PULL from the schedule.
:: :: ::
