Subject: Auto pilot options
Info: (18546 views) Posted: Thursday 4-3-14 10:43:10 AM
HI JB,

Thanks for the response.

The X5 is still for sale at a few shops, but I think I am going for the newer EV-100 by Raymarine. After talking with a tech it seems to be a better options. I think I will also go with their i70 wind, speed, depth, temp pac so the pilot will work with apparent wind or true wind steering. I know with my past NKE this made all the difference. And the Raymarine is 20% of the NKE price for the same setup.

Will report back after a few overnights single handed.

:: Hi Paul, welcome! Raymarine X5 seems to be most popular
:: and cost effective choice. Now, it's under an iteration
:: with auto calibrate and reportedly with some more gyro
:: data and self learning, though I don't know any express
:: who has it yet.
::
:: ST2000 Plus can handle the basic stuff, but the X5 has a
:: gyro which I appreciate going downwind off ocean waves.

:: :: New owner here of Express 1986 #115 which is currently
:: :: in Maine and coming to RI next week. It will be in RI
:: :: sailing shorthanded.
:: ::
:: :: I have had a few singlehanded boats that were NKE gyro
:: :: pilots that worked pretty well. I did have a Raymarine
:: :: on my Antrim 27 that was only compass heading.
:: ::
:: :: I am shopping for a pilot to install on my Express 27
:: :: but can't spend the NKE dollars.
:: ::
:: :: What are the singlehanded racers using with their E27's?
