Subject: Weight Limit + 2008 LD Series
Info: (31727 views) Posted: Friday 8-17-07 07:47:27 PM
I like flexibility, will be posting a series proposal for the 2008 Long DIstance Series; for discussion purposes. Given the high potential for mixed PHRF racing I advocate NO weight limit for 2008 LD Series only. Please note decisions will need to be made about what the fleet races Long Distance and Class.

I propose no duplication betyween LD & Class. And, that the LD Series have first choice for the post event regatta potentials. Here's first cut ata short list; but hold comments until I get the complete proposal posted.

Dates are approximate weekend

Three Bridge; SSS ) 1/27 Crewed Lightship; OYRA 3/24 Double handed Farallones; BAMA) 4/7 Vallejo Race 5/5-6 Post Event Monterey Spinnaker Ru 5/25-26 Post Event Ditch Run; 6/2 Post Event Drakes Bay 6/9-10 Post Event Coastal Cup 6/21- Post Event Midnight Moonlight; e27 class (5) 7/7 Plastic Classic; e27 class (5) 7/15-16 Post Event Half Moon Bay OYRA (4) 7/21 Post Event Second Half Opener 7/28 Post Event Farralones; OYRA (5) 8/4 Half Moon Bay; SSS (2) 8/18 Post Event Windjammers 9/1 Post Event

I'm inclinded to cut the non post even races. I will post a proposal next week. Please e-mail inputs at this time. After the post is up we can have a web board rally on the issue

If the idea is to get more people out on the line; cutting the limit is part of a more FUN strategy.

:: I am all for leaving things where they are. I think most
:: of the fleet agrees as well. I weighed 223 about two
:: months before the nationals, went on a healthy diet and
:: weiged in at 206 for nationals. I certainly am not
:: "vertically challenged" as Larry puts it, since I am 6'
:: tall. I have several friends that are even taller than I
:: am and who actually weigh less than I do.
::
:: I just think the 880 limit has worked very well for many
:: years and it is only a small few people who are
:: complaining about it. I feel it is really in those
:: people's best interest to lead a healthier life and shed
:: 20-30 lbs.
::
:: This, of course, is just my opinion. If you want to
:: change the rules we have a process in place to do just
:: that. Go for it!

::
:: :: I'm not necessarily advocating it, but you could imagine
:: :: a weight limit system where the weight of driver was
:: :: taken into account. Something like:
:: ::
:: :: total weight limit = 880 + 0.4 * ( driver_weight - 160 )
:: ::
:: :: - 120 lb driver - weight limit: 866lbs (746 for crew)
:: :: - 160 lb driver - weight limit: 880lbs (720 for crew)
:: :: - 220 lb driver - weight limit: 904lbs (685 for vrew)
:: :: - 260 lb driver - weight limit: 920lbs (660 for crew)
:: ::
:: ::
:: :: I don't know what the right values in the forumula would
:: :: be be to make things even ...
