Roger,

On the question of the reaching chute, I would recommend not going with one. Most AP kites work fine on a reach, when needed. And most race committees rarely put you on a triangle course any more so there isn't too often times when you REALLY need a reaching chute. We have used a runner design the last couple of chutes and it even works well enough on the times when we need it.

As for the mast head kite question, it really depends on your conditions. In the SF bay I don't think it would be worth the benefit. If I were sailing regularly in SoCal or Seattle then I might think about it. I know the Detroit guys use them a lot so hopefully one of them will chime in.
