Dan,

Since a good portion of the sailing I do is ocean, single or double handed I think hanks are the only way to go. As you know on a weekend like Coastal Cup it can be tough and even dangerous to send a crew forward to remove the jib. It was great to drop the four to deck and leave it hanked on, ready to set when the kite had to come down. Can’t do that with a foil. I have had a number of experiences when I have doused the jib from the cockpit, set the kite and just let the jib drag a clew in the water until conditions allowed going forward.

Of course I have also envied the quick sail changes Jason and others can make during shorter bay races. Everything is a tradeoff!
