The key words are "Either" and "or". Your motor doesn't have to weigh 45 lbs, it just have to be able to move the boat at 4knots. Now in what conditions is another topic for discussion probably. Down a 30 foot wave you wouldn't need much, but upwind in the ocean you would probably need a 25 hp motor.

:: The Way i read the class rules the must be a least forty
:: five Lbs of Motor weight.

:: :: I've used a 4hp evinrude 2-stroke, and it works great.
:: :: 35# isn't too big to carry, and it does full speed on
:: :: the return trip from the delta.
:: ::
:: :: :: I would like to replace my 2 hp honda with little biger

:: ::
:: :: :: Alternative 4-5 hp tohatsu? Is the standart motor mount
:: :: :: capable of carring such load?
:: ::
:: :: :: It is twice the weight -around 55lbs.
