Subject: Huntington Lake

Huntington Lake is considered one of the tops sailing lakes in North America. located at 7,000 ft elevation and surrouded by 10,000 ft peaks it is a mountain jewel. Several National Regattas have been held there, including the Moore 24's, Thistle's and Santana 20's because of its consistant winds and scenic beauty. The winds start about 10:30 AM and blow until after 5:00PM. The lake is about 5 miles long and the winds blow the length of the lake from the west end to the east end. Normal wind is in the 16 knt. range on the east end. Good winds, lots of sunshine, flat water, T-shirt and shorts, a sailors dream.

With 5 boats we will have our own class and if enough more possibly our own start.

All races start and finish at the east end near the main beach so your shore crew and kids can watch the races while getting some beach time. Lots of activities for families including horesback riding and hiking. My wife is an avid hiker and will be glad to give info to anyone interested.

There will be over 100 boats racing on our weekend, including Henderson 30, Olson 30's, Moore 24's, 11 Meter, J27 so there will be lots of activity on the beach and eye candy (bikini's).

The Fresno Yacht club has an excellent section on the regatta and lake on their web site that includes maps, camping and accomidations, a good reveiw on tactics for the lake and pictures. The web site is: www.fresnoyachtclub.org.

I anchor my boat in Deer Cove (free) which is near the beach, launch ramp, and camping. Good protected anchorage. I use an inflatable raft to access my boat from shore.

I have the use of a cabin at the west end of the lake and would be pleased have a cocktail party for our group one night or possibly we can meet up at the saloon (its a hoot) which is near the camp grounds.

I will be at the lake from that Wedensday on and would be glad to offer any help with raising masts or launching the boats. No hoist but its free, fresh water and not really very difficult. I also have an extendable crutch that makes raising and lowering the mast a lot easier ath anyone can use

I can be reached by e-mail, [email protected] or cell phone (559) 280-8080 if anyone wants more info.

:: Looks like we already have 4 boats that are planning on
:: doing this regatta. I personally have never done it but
:: have always wanted to. I hear they have great wind and
:: you get to camp out as well. Can't ask for a better
:: scenario to get to know and party with your fellow
:: racers. Hopefully some of the folks who have done this
:: regatta will chime in and tell us more.
::
:: So if you are looking for something fun and different to
:: do, please sign up for this one. It would be great to
:: get our own one design start for this regatta.
::
:: I'll bring the margarita mixings!!!!!!!!
