Because I now mostly single hand (and am getting old) I installed a Facnor flat deck furler on my E27 two years ago. After much research I concluded this was the best fit for the boat and it has worked out exceptionally well. Facnor claims the low profile drum fitted with webbing, instead of line, eliminates overrides and I have to say they are correct based on my usage so far. The system works much smoother than other brand furling systems I’ve used in the past on other boats. It is definitely the best constructed in my opinion however they are a somewhat expensive.

The double grooved foil sections fit over the existing forestay without modification so all can be put back to original easily. I used Sailrite conversion kits to modify my 150% Genoa and my #1 Jib. The 150% Genoa reefs down to about 120% with acceptable performance and it’s the sail I use most. Since the drum is so thin, and only a few inches off the deck, the required luff tape modification was accomplished with negligible sail area reduction. This set up makes life a lot easier for me without sacrificing much on the performance side. I like the system a lot.

:: Has anyone put a roller fuller on their Express 27 for
:: the jib? What size sail to use?
