Subject: Upgraded Winches

:: I am looking at upgrading the jib winches on my Express
:: 27 from Barient 10 to a two speed Harken 16X2. Anybody
:: have any input on this? I have found the Barient 10's
:: inadequate in a good blow, especially for the genoa.

:: Your input would be greatly appreciate!

I have the last Express ever built, which as most of the fleet knows belonged to Carl Schumacher himself. The boat is totally tricked out and is fully Harken equiped. The Harken 16.2 two-speed winches are plenty sufficient. You don't need to go bigger all your adding is weight for minimal gain. I have a smaller winch on the cabin top I added for my main halyard. A harken 16 is overkill for a halyard.
