I bought one of these about a year ago and am pretty pleased. You will definitely need the long shaft. At 3/4 throttle the motor will push the boat along at 5 knots into a light breeze, and run for a little over an hour on the 1 quart integral tank. If the wind is blowing (20-25) the motor won’t do much, but I figure that’s when the sails should be up anyway. I am very pleased with mine but have three minor gripes. 1) It tends to be a little on the noisy side (but most engines are). 2) You have to hang off the back of the boat to add fuel if you want to motor for more than 1 hour. 3) It’s very sensitive to being a little low on oil, and it’s impossible to check when you are under way. This last point isn’t a problem if you only use the motor for 1-2 hours which is plenty for getting you to and from most races. But in my honest opinion it would not be a good motor if you plan to use it for any extended motoring.
