Subject: More on OYRA/RC Equipment Actions
Info: (22622 views) Posted: Wednesday 3-26-08 04:58:54 PM
Hi Everyone:

OYRA/RC are considering random sampling of boats from each fleet to check for compliance.

That initiative has been instituted for the J120 ocean race next weekend. mb

:: Hi Tony:
::
:: Got your mail.
::
:: In response the on shore mixer was a leading event and I
:: hope there are more of them including those that follow
:: the owner format Ray & Janet pioneered. Perhaps on a
:: rotating basis? And/or incorporating some pot luck
:: elements to spread out the set up and make on shore
:: admin easier?
::
:: On the race itself, a committee of judges is now
:: reviewing if there are any ambiguities across three sets
:: of OYRA instructions; the master, the addendum and the
:: race instructions themselves to determine if the wording
:: in any way was confusing or unclear that boats must
:: check in before 9:40 am or be scored DNS.
::
:: Shenninigans was more than 25 minutes late to check in
:: and this is under review. So, its a good time to get
:: your advocacy into RC.

:: On the minimum equipment issues, OYRA and RC are
:: apparently filing protests against boats directly for
:: infractions including no mob poles, no strobe lights, no
:: horse, no jack lines. And I think that's important for
:: several reasons.
::
:: First, the equipment is required under OYRA and USYRU
:: rules.
::
:: Second, the equipment and the ability to deploy it is a
:: necessity of good seasmenship in principle as a best
:: practice.
::
:: Third, having the equipment provides each owner immunity
:: from carriers cancelling specfic provsions of the yacht
:: insurance policy including having to do with personal
:: liability in the case of injury.
::
:: Fourth, adminsitrative bodies have fiduciary
:: responsibilities for compliance as a responsible party
:: in their portion of the administration and for setting a
:: good example.
::
:: Fifth; having all the weight the minimum equipment
:: implies a level the racing field.
::
:: In the case of this particular LS race a light boat
:: suffers less slowing down while driving into and through
:: waves up wind. After colliding with that wave will
:: accelerate through and forward faster than a laiden
:: boat.

:: Will get to the weather mark quicker and into a brisker
:: flood earlier. Will sail in that flood longer than
:: following boats which are laiden And when they get to
:: the ebb will experience less ebb than the laiden boats
:: which follow.
