Subject: gelcoat repair
Info: (14411 views) Posted: Saturday 1-22-05 07:50:55 AM

:: Soliticing some advice on two repair topics. First, i've
:: got some minor gouges where the old pads use to make
:: contact with the hull. Laminate is exposed but not
:: damaged. I'm thinking of using 3M vinylester to fill in
:: the area and then have it spray gelcoated to best match
:: the original color. Was thinking another route was to
:: just use a matched color gelcoat paste and fill and
:: fair.
::
:: Second, I've noticed some surface blisters under the old
:: pads. I don't know if these are worth even bothering
:: with but I'm thinking of lightly scraping/popping,
:: drying and refilling the section with either a
:: vinylester or again the gelcoat paste. Afterwards,
:: covering the pads with Poly sheeting to prevent moisture
:: retention.
::
:: Thanks!

No help on the repair, but for prevention I use closed cell foam from a camping sleeping pad. It has a 1/2" compression to spread the load on the hull and doesn't retain water
