Subject: 2010 Fun Series Weight Limit Soft Sounding

Hi Eric:

Thanks for responding. I absolutley agree that the weight limit conversation should take place at the class level, subsequently my relaying information from scheduling committee conversations on the 880 + 200 option . . . as a soft sounding.

So notice has been posted per admin process, And there have been no objections so far . . . which is a good sign of support for this unique low impact not much change option.

So with 15 Fun series races that made the cut in 2009, with ocean decision 2:3 pending on poll result, lets get the ideas out there.

And that is because we have plenty of time to decide; 60 days at least. So people can think on it. Which is why yours trully, as Fun series & Fleet growth advocate, is getting ideas out there:-).

This has nothing to do by the way with the bouy series 36 or so series races which that fleet has sustained, And there is no hard and fast rule that says Fun series can't test with alternative frameworks around the weight option.

But I agree with you that we all need to agree on that minior mod for 2010. Persoanlly, I just can't see anyone being down right against this specific test because the fleet wide impact is minute and the potential growth catalyst so great.

This is not the only growth catalyst idea with neutral impact in committee conversation. But lets get this one covered for a week or so on this board . . . and leave the other two ideas for coming weeks. So this idea; simply 4 of 15 Fun series races and the benefits described of testiing the higher limit in 4 races a) for opening up of the class to participation by 1 more person, b) to benchmark that weight and get the data on the right races for that up to 1080 weight, c) add a position in a minutia of total 2010 races to d) train during a race, e) bring a friend, e) SERIOUSLY; get the pros back for one race and Crewed Lightship would be a good one for that purpose at this weight test.

So Eric, the idea is not to change the weight limit; just to test this alternative weight with liittle or not impact on the majority of boats and crews; just add one person on up to 4 Fun series races in a combined series of 51 races; so less than 10%.

Cheers, mb

:: Mike and e27 Class:
::
:: As a one design class, any action re class rules,
:: including racing weight limit, will be taken at
:: class level. There will be no alternative weight limit
:: for a subset of the SF fleet schedule. The current max
:: combined crew weight in a class sanctioned one design
:: event is 880 lbs
::
:: Any dues paying owner of an e27 interested in seeing
:: this class rule changed is invited to make that interest
:: known by posting here and contacting the class officers.
::
:: If enough owners are interested in seeing a change, it
:: is certainly a possibility. Based on numerous
:: discussions and votes taken at past annual meetings, we
:: believe that a only a small minority of the SF fleet is
:: actually interested in changing the weight limit rule.
:: If we are wrong, please demonstrate this to us by
:: posting here.
::

::
:: :: This soft sounding is for Fun series participants only
:: :: and does not effect Buoy series.
:: ::
:: :: The inquiry is, "All Fun Racers AGAINST adopting Larry's
:: :: weight rule allowing owners their free weight on the
:: :: rail above their 176# mean average crew weight please
:: :: state that objection here in reply.
:: ::
:: :: Let us know over the next month.
:: ::
:: :: Thanks,
::
