Just thought I would ask to see if anyone else has been down this path or not before I dive in on doing this repair. Basically, for what ever reason, I have 3 thru-hull transducers which is 2 more than needed so I am planning on moving forward with repairing 2 of the 3 and wanted to see if anyone else has been down this path.
At this point I am planning on a 12:1 ratio to be able lay up the glass over the old thru-hull holes. I am planning on doing the repair using vinyl-lester and then gelcoating over the finished result. I have opted for vinyl-lester since from what I have read, this is what the boats are made of as well as it seems to be a better product than straight polyester resin.
I am also planning on doing some glass lay up on the inside of the hull as well both for strength and just the clean things up a bit.
The questions I have are as follow though -
Is there any place where the glass weight that was used in the hull lay up is noted? I probably won't use the same weight fiberglass but it would be good to know for reference.
Are there any recommendation on a type of glass or weight of fiberglass to use?
Other than that, is there anything else I should consider that I may have overlooked? Trying to avoid re-inventing the wheel since I suspect there are others who have been down this path.
Thanks, Jason
