When the series committee brought a broad list of choices for series vote, we also talked about improving it. So wanted to chime in on this subject before fleet meeting. A mid season comment.
Everyone seems to like 3 Bridge.
Crewed Light Ship has fleet status. And dbh'd Light Ship and dbh'd Farallones brought a lot to do this year on a very accelerated season starter.
My opinion is we chose between dbh'd LS and dbh'd Farallones. With Fun taking dbh'd LS, buoy dbh'd Farallones. Consider the Farallones as a big buoy. This format offers a learning ramp for those who haven’t sailed one or the other of these races. And with dbh'd Farallones certainly as sophisticated technically as any buoy race.
I'm not suggesting we vote on any of these ideas at fleet meeting. Just know they're out there and waiting yours. In this case up too two separate tracks which dampen the accelerated start to the season. SSS dbh'd bay race scored e27 fleet status; a keeper for me. I advocate continuing SSS series as a subset of Fun. Which is a streamline to all the entry fees.
Ditch Run remains popular.
Dbh'd Half Moon Bay had three boats. I'd keep it for SSS subset. A Great Location to race to and cruise back from. Let's grow this race to a full fleet of five or more for 2010 season.
2nd Half Opener scores fleet status; a keeper for me on 2010 schedule.
Midnight Moonlight had only two boats. Up to six were considering it all in the north bay. Offering a race (slip return) for north bay berthed boats. I don't mind nixing it from the schedule. But maybe south bay boats could come up with a local compliment (as offset) and we try this local fleet building idea in Fun series. There are plenty of boats in both locales.
A word on SSS south beach race Sarcoma Saturday. Some of us Fun Series boats are doing it. And while yet to come, advocate this race for Fun next year. So some e27s are doing both regattas this coming weekend. See SFBaySSS.org and sign up until Wednesday.
Sarcoma Cup Sunday is yet to be and mimics Great Pumpkin Sunday point race in format which is popularly participated. I don't mind the chase race but would like to see a longer course (point to point) race in one of them. No more than a YRA course 12 to 16 miles; and not a Big Boat Series Course.
Otherwise the current format is Fun by me.
Jazz Cup is yet to be and indicates near fleet interest. Race up and cruise back on Sunday. There's a race announcement with details in Latitude 38.
Vallejo 1 - 2 follows for report end of year.
Great Pumpkin Sunday ends the Fun series for 1009. Often in lighter winds then August and Sarcoma. A keeper and I like current format for race conditions at time of year.
The midwinters question might be worth considering and making a choice on at this fleet meeting?
