THANKS MIKE
:: Release the rig.
::
:: Pull the chain plates.
::
:: Inspect bulkhead surface and bolt holes thru knee(s) and
:: bulkhead.
::
:: Appearance should be bright, hard and ice pick
:: resistant.
::
:: Thru cut in deck dig the balsa rot out with 90 degree
:: tool, barricade below decks and fill with expansive
:: micro ballons.
::
:: Recut hole through deck.
::
:: Reinstall chainplates w/new bolts fender washer backed.
::
:: If the old washers resessed into the back side knee . .
:: . that is ok acts as a sheer ring v load path. . . but
:: don't overally tighten past where the old fender washers
:: resessed.
::
:: Use liquid life caulk to seal between chain plates and
:: desk; let dry..
::
:: Use regular life caulk to finish screwing doiwn cover
:: plate with screws into the fresh new micro ballons.
::
:: The liquid life caulk is the key for the seal, followed
:: by the regular top off under cover plate.

::
:: :: Hi - my port chainplates are leaking badly. I read the
:: :: article posted on the site and may attempt the
:: :: recommendation.
:: ::
:: :: A boat builder suggested the following. Anyone know if
:: :: this is a good idea? Is it street legal?
:: ::
:: :: Basically the idea is to weld the beauty plate to the
:: :: chainplate that way the water can't travel straight down
:: :: but has to work around the edges of the plate. Then seal
:: :: it all up as per normal.
:: ::
:: :: Thanks,
