:: One of the issues with the afterlower attachment down
:: below is that Alsberg bent a marine eye 45 degress at
:: pinned it with a round flat head bolt to the knee of
:: that mini bulk head aft of the galley and chart table. .
:: . these bolt head's as original hardware pooped off on
:: severalboats before in line lowers. I replaced all those
:: flat round heads early on . . . evreywhere I could find
:: one . . . and they were everywhere. I replaced them with
:: 3 star hex heads.
::
:: The modification many who raced ocean did was this . . .
:: get a 5/16th (I think) U bolt. Use the existing top hole
:: that held the original single bolt through the top kneee
:: of the marine ply bolt aft of galley and chart table.
:: This will hold the top bolt of the U bolt. Then drill a
:: second hold . . . an inch or so down . . . I think the
:: spread is about an inch and a quarter on this 5/16 th
:: inch U bolt fastner . . . you know they kind with the
:: plate at the base . . . makkng sure you not only pick up
:: the marine ply . . . but also the mahogony piece at the
:: top front of the seat . . . that piece glassed to the
:: boat aft of the mini bulk head . . .where the seat slats
:: bolt on at the top . . . to get a much thicker bite for
:: the bottom bolt of the U bolt. Before you drill this
:: bottom hole make sure to cant the U bolt (inward I
:: think) . . . which means the lower hole needs to be
:: moved toward the hull in relation to the top existing
:: hole . . . in line with the way the wire brace aims
:: toward to after lower pad eye under the deck. I also
:: replaced the brace itself with a real 5/16 marine eye
:: that rides firmly on the U bolt . . . . with a toggle
:: fitting for the below deck pad eye . . . and a real
:: turnbuckle similiar to barrel variety found on the after
:: lower itself.
