Richard Gilbert and his crew on Punk Dolphin again demonstrated the legendary speed of the "ultimate sailing machine" in the Bayview YC 55 nautical mile Long Distance Race last Saturday on Lake St. Clair. The race was postponed for several hours for lack of wind and finally started in around 5 knots or less around 2 pm. Punkers sneaked up the Canadian shore and was first boat around the Thames Light far ahead of the rest of the E27 fleet and all the big IMS and PHRF boats. She was second to a Melges 32 at the second mark. Punk Dolphin finished the race at 12:22 am in an elapsed time of 10:32. This was faster than all but the fastest PHRF boats rating 12 to 70.

Boats that Punkers beat on elapsed time included a Shannon 43, a C&C 110, Beneteau 41, S2 10.3, Santana 35, J29, J34, Cayenne 12.5, Beneteau 36.7, Peterson 43, C&C 41, 6 C&C 35s, 5 J105s, 4 NA 40s, and 3 Tartan 10s, among others. Punk Dolphin corrected out second overall out of 71 boats to the first place Cal 25 which took 11:54 to get around the course, compared to Punk Dolphin's 10:32.
